Philosophy
Question Seven: What is the meaning of human history?
When an individual subscribes to the belief of spontaneous generation when dealing with the concept of human history, it becomes difficult to settle on any particular model in regard to life. Nevertheless, Christians put their belief on the notion that all people were created for a particular reason and thereafter placed on earth at the right time as per the plans of God. Human history refers to the notions that people hold regarding the origin of mankind and nature. History is a direct, sensible order of events that lead to fulfillment of the purposes set by God for human beings. The belief that the God is the supreme creator can be ascertained by the way history has played out. According to Christianity, man was created to purposefully glorify God as well as please him for his whole lifetime. However, man’s fellowship did not last long as he was deceived into eat the forbidden fruit at the Garden of Eden (Sire, 2015). The disobedience made Adam and Eve to establish a strained relationship with God as they were punished in several ways among them was their ultimate physical as well as spiritual death. Since time immemorial, God has made use of history to disclose his plans regarding salvation and eternal restoration. Christianity is puts its focus on biblical history as well as the life, death and ultimate resurrection of Christ Jesus.
Jesus is portrayed as the real, physical and divine being who left an eternal history. The history that indeed Jesus lived on earth, performed miracles, died and resurrected forms the foundation of proof that the history is actually real. “These sorts of affirmations represent profound dispositions or commitments of the central core of the whole person” (Sire, 2015 p.142). Conversely, the claims are still dependent on historical analysis due to the fact that in both instances, historical proof tolerates their validity. In addition, there are evidences proving that the historical instances indeed happened and that therefore the revelation that the bible is a reliable book. Furthermore, archeological findings reveal have consistently supported biblical history. To make the biblical historically authentic, the cities stated in the bible are currently present and even more, they are located at the exact locations that the bible states they existed. There are various customs and cultures which have been established through the study of archaeology. Furthermore, there are leaders who have come up due to the findings from archaeological studies.
It is indeed astonishing to realize how past life occurrences’ reveals themselves more so when considering the quantity of data that has been disclosed in the previous centuries. Nevertheless, not all biblical claims have been ascertained but what makes the Christian belief of biblical human history interesting is the fact that there isn’t anything from the bible that has been disproved. The solid track of evidence revealed by archaeologists convinces many Christians that they are not misplaced in believing in God (Cohen and Lotan, 2014). The universal view based on the well-known historically verified revelation in biblical scriptures has played a leading role in answering the difficult life questions. “That is, it is not fundamentally a set of propositions or a web of beliefs. That is, it is not first and foremost a matter of the intellect. Nor is it fundamentally a matter of language or a semiotic system of narrative signs …..It is a matter of the soul and is represented more as a spiritual orientation or perhaps disposition, than as a matter of mind alone.” (Sire, 2015 p.142). It is therefore worth noting that the Christian worldview is not a mere group of suggestions and web beliefs or even an issue of strong intellect but rather a matter of human soul and what’s more is that it is epitomized more like a spiritual alignment.
Question Eight: What personal, life-orienting core commitments are consistent with each worldview?
In any particular worldview, the main commitments of people can greatly vary depending on their beliefs. For instance, Christians subscribe to the belief that they should be committed to fulfilling God’s will as well as seek the kingdom of God first before anything else. Some Christians are committed to obeying God’s commandments and please him in their eternal life (Simoneaux, 2015). In addition, other Christians believe that it is their obligation to know God as much as they can and loving him from their hearts. It is therefore the belief of any Christian that they live their lives in a manner that pleases God and fulfills the commandments stated in the scriptures. Just as stated in the scriptures, “For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall never be shaken. (Psalms 62:1-2)”(Sire, 2015 p.142). A Christian should be committed to seeking God’s kingdom through glorifying him in his lifetime. It is through conforming to the beliefs and practices of the bible that a Christian fulfills their commitment.
It is therefore the obligation of any Christian to ensure that they wait on the Lord patiently as he is the all-knowing and the rock of salvation. These commitments greatly orient the life of any Christian to a particular way of life that basically does not harm the people around them. It is based on these reasons that we have the churches and leaders who ensure that their members live as per the expectations of the Lord (Erdvig, 2016). Christians are supposed to ensure that their deeds respect God’s will at all times. It is the various believe on the commitments that lead to different understanding of the worldview in regard to Christians. On the other hand, there are the naturalists who may state that they are committed to realizing their individual potential so that they may experience life to the fullest. There are still other naturalists who may state that they are committed towards ensuring that they become role models to others and ensuring that they do what is good towards their friends (Erdvig, 2016) . In addition, there are naturalists who have a life commitment of ensuring that they make the world a better place by ensuring that they live in a peaceful world that is full of peace.
There are some beliefs and commitments of naturalists that seem to resemble those of Christians like those stated above but it is their belief and some weird commitments that make them differ from Christians (Simoneaux, 2015). For instance, there are naturalists who are committed to commuting crime as well as social diversity. Furthermore, Christians believe in God while naturalists only believe in a power but they cannot identify the power with a supreme being. There is also the deism which is a kind of theism. These people believe in the existence of a god which created the universe but they do not associate with it in any form. Each Deist has their own belief and is committed towards fulfilling their own goals. For instance, a Deist would state that god decided to set the universe in motion then stood aside to watch as the earth rotated. Deists believe in the existence of a god even though they do not know or acknowledge the god. Deists have varied beliefs and they may also be harmful in other
