Abstract
It has been my dream for next ten years to become a practitioner-scholar in the field of educational psychology. Scholar-practitioners are focused on the prosperity of colleagues and clients, to adapting to better approaches to being effective, and to intellectualizing their work in connection to a more extensive organizational, cultural, community and political contexts (McClintock, 2004). The incentive behind this paper is to give my visions and goals to turning into an instructive or educational psychologist in the public school system.
Your Vision as a Practitioner-Scholar
Introduction
An inquiry that ceaselessly saturates on any human’s mind is what purposes do they have in living on this earth. To be straightforward, I have pondered this question and in some way got myself still indeterminate of the answer. Ten years back being at [name of high school] I always wanted to become a medical caretaker. I certainly realized that the medical field was not in my plans due to my weaknesses, yet I yearned and had a profound craving to help young people in need. Psychology has opened a ray of hope in my life. Becoming an educational psychologist in a will give me a chance to help students from various background to attain the best learning experience through demonstrative learning.
Vision
I am determined to work teenagers in the middle-school public setting. For me to accomplish this, I must research the learning process and its relationship to behavioral backgrounds in adolescents. I accept as true that students should have the chance to be able to understand the basic learning techniques that will best serve them in an educational setting. Many students only learn for the sake of passing exams; they do not integrate the needed information in their course. Also, it is evident that most students are anxious about standardized tests which lead to poor results. B.F Skinner postulated that education remains paramount when the learned behaviors are forgotten (McClintock, 2004). I agree with this statement, especially in any school system in the country. For the above reasons, I made a decision to become an educational psychologist to help teenagers gain the best learning experience and skills that are essential for them proper in adulthood regardless socioeconomic or behavioral. Even though there are other career opportunities associated with educational psychology, I have decided to work in a public setting because I moved with working with teenagers that lived in behavioral facilities due to physical abuse or emotional turmoil. My experience with individuals who encountered difficulty in retention of content, difficulty in learning in class due to either medication or lack of understanding, has motivated me to have much interest in a public setting. In the course of my studies am going to research on how behavioral backgrounds affect the learning process in teenagers. Attaining a master’s in psychology will endow me my vision the most practical tools obliged to help all students, regardless of their background to gaining the best in the learning process.
Goals
There are important goals that I need to achieve while am still living. Although my goals keep evolving as I age, it is essential to understand and have a road map of what they are. I am planning to pursue a master’s degree in educational psychology. After completing this degree, I am planning to serve at any public middle school, during my years in the institution I am on the verge to publish articles about my experiences and research within a public school setting. I want to educate instructors on the new methods and considerations of behavioral background in the learning process. I believe that my long term goals are realistic with conscientiousness, perseverance, determination and sustenance of my family and friends. I am aware that goals are subject to change with life circumstances. However, I am confident that my education will help me regulate and make my vision and goals come true.
Conclusion
The term scholar-practitioner communicates a thought of
professional proficiency beached in theory and research, motivated by political
responsibilities, moral behavior, and
personal values, and informed by experiential knowledge and skill (McLeod, 2015). With my vision of
becoming an educational psychologist, it will
give me an opportunity to become a practitioner-scholar
and fulfill my purposes in life in helping teenagers gain the best out of the
learning process in their decision on careers. Completing my research on how
behavioral backgrounds impacts the learning process, and writing a book about
teenage education is what I look forward to accomplishing
in my life. Past life reflections and
experiences of the conventional education frameworks have a grown a passion in psychology,
and I possess attainable goals to attain
them. Overall, I am fortunate to get an opportunity at Capella University in
pursuing my Master’s Degree, and it is in
my prayers that I gain the required skills and knowledge necessary to my life’s
purpose.
