Solution.
Lead Turning the Fight.
Thesis
Over the years, the US operations in Iraq and Afghanistan have had the advantage of a revolutionary level of an unchallenged operational access. This aspect will, however, be contested in future by different military operations. The key motivation belying the article is the joint operational access concept (JOAC), which proposes a means through which future forces can overcome the above stated challenge. In order to make the JOAC actionable, however, there is a need to transition it from a mere concept and into a doctrine. Consequently, the authors seek to generate an understanding of what will be required in order to make the JOAC actionable (Kreuder, 2013: p.103).
Threaded Discussion Question
Kreuder has given different doctrinal concepts that can be used as proposed by JOAC to bridge the gap with various examples of their applications in the past. He also discussed the threats that have created the doctrinal gap, which hinders operational access. How are these concepts valid and operational? Discuss the hindrances, which can inhibit execution of these concepts.
This question relates to joint issues or emerging concepts in the following ways:
- The validity of a concept can be highlighted by the damage it can cause for example the effect-based operation (EBO) which failed
- Some concepts cannot work in joint operations, for instance, the EBO, which has the potential to be successful but it failed in a joint doctrine.
- Proponents must learn to validate, identify, and accelerate a concept that is valid for joint doctrine
- Changing operational environment and the A2/AD can be a threat to JOAC concept
A discussion based on the proposed question would likely explore the following sub-topics:
- Discussion of different JOAC concepts
- Discussion of the threats that will inhibit the success of these concepts
- Emerging trends that will pose challenge to the operational access
- Technologies that will improve A2/AD capabilities
