Over the years, the US operations in Iraq and Afghanistan have had the advantage of a revolutionary level of an unchallenged operational access. This aspect will, however, be contested in future by different military operations. The key motivation belying the article is the joint operational access concept (JOAC), which proposes a means through which future forces can overcome the above stated challenge. In order to make the JOAC actionable, however, there is a need to transition it from a mere concept and into a doctrine. Consequently, the authors seek to generate an understanding of what will be required in order to make the JOAC actionable (Kreuder, 2013: p.103).
