Use this intro for the essay:
Imagine living in a world where women terminate pregnancies whenever they want and can never be questioned. What will happen to those who are married and decide to terminate pregnancies whenever they have misunderstanding? Will young women practice safe sex? These are some of the questions that would run in someone’s mind when legalizing abortion is mention. USA is among the few countries that have been advocating for killing unborn babies. To them, an unborn baby is not a human being that deserves protection under human rights provisions. The legalization is hidden behind protection of a person from impending health risks – psychological, emotional, familial, age etc. However, the mentioned risks create more loopholes for more illegal abortions. Since one only needs approval from one doctor, some of the risks can be faked just to get rid of pregnancy. The reasons behind legalizing abortion are not strong enough to warrant it. For instance, Judge Mark Horner argues that denying abortion to victims of rape violates human rights laws (Milligan, 2015). With this, one would ask, what happened to humanity? Destroying a human at the expense of the rights of another human is not human right, it is destruction. Abortion is not a matter of human rights and should not be legalized.

The arguments against the treatment of abortion as a human right are anchored on the premise that life begins at conception, and therefore, even the unborn child is protected under the bill of rights anchored in our constitution and international treaties. The protection of the mother’s rights and freedoms cannot be granted at the expense of the loss of the right to life that must be granted to the unborn child. In this context, abortion is essentially the murder of an innocent human being which is against the tenets of the bill of rights. According to the federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act, enacted to “to protect unborn children from assault and murder,” anyone who intentionally kills or even attempts to kill and unborn child should be brought to punishment for murder. At the worst, the rights of the mother could still be protected if the society enacts policies that support mothers in unwanted pregnancies such as providing inexpensive and readily available health care, workplaces and schools that incorporate the needs of mothers and federal support that integrates women in the workplace, instead of going for the easier option of terminating the pregnancy.
The debate on the human rights aspect of abortion cannot be settled before the real issues that cause abortion are tacked. The pro-choice crusade is heavily criticized for being insensitive to the real issues. For instance, when a woman is raped and becomes pregnant, the problem here is that she was raped, and not that she is pregnant; if a woman is starving and gets pregnant in the process of fending for herself, the problem is that she is starving and not that she is pregnant; when a woman is in an abusive relationship and gets pregnant, the problem is the abusive relationship and not the pregnancy. Abortion, in this case, should not be used as a way for the society to escape the real issues that plague it, but rather, governments, the society and communities should work towards ensuring safe, secure and suitable living conditions for mothers as a right, and not promote abortion which denies other human beings their right to life.
