The goals listed in this paper should be reflective of someone transitioning from and RN (staff nurse) to a Nurse practitioner.Developing professional goals is critical to guiding your career and transitioning to become a practicing NP. The goals that you develop should be SMART. SMART goals are: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-specific (Massachusetts Institute of Technology Human Resources, n.d.). Keeping your goals SMART will increase your chances of meeting or exceeding your professional career goals.
For this Assignment, you will identify three short-term and three long-term goals. You also will explain how each goal relates to your professional career development and how you might achieve each of these goals.To prepare:

Identify at least three short-term goals (1-2 years)
Identify at least three long-term goals (3-5 years)
Explain why you selected each goal and how they relate to your professional career development
Create a strategic plan that explains how you might achieve each of these goals

Long-Term Goals
For career development, one has to establish clear defined goals. For many years I have wanted to have the title of a nurse practitioner. The journey to achieve this has been long and tricky but the challenges open my brains to set smart goals to achieve the desired results. I learned to break the bigger goal to small measurable and attainable goals. My goal is centered in giving back to my community by providing quality medication as a passionate Nurse Practitioner and therefore influence the healthcare system of the community by through patient outreach and education. After gaining the much- needed experience in the course of this career I will join the nursing profession to train others. Being a nurse educator is therefore by long- term career goal. After the advancement and gaining more experience, I will establish a private clinic and give back to the profession as a nurse educator. I plan to recruit, grow and retain nurses and provide full-bodied learning for nursing students
Short-Term Goals
I have short term goals of providing efficient discharge plan and comprehensive care that factors patients’ cultural and emotional needs. My professional goals are intact and with effective time management, I will achieve them in a less worrying way. I have a deep understanding that setting goals help differentiate what is important and less meaningful hence one has concentrated efforts on the bigger picture. My goal is to be an effective clinician this means to have the ability to prescribe, diagnose and manage the health of a patient. I will also need to be adaptive to the changing trend of the healthcare. Being driven to multitask and manage, I am focused to be independent as a nurse practitioner and thrive in leadership areas. I will endeavor to have a holistic approach to people health that focuses on education and prevention. The holistic approach promotes long life health and treats the whole patient. Specifically, I will concentrate the holistic approach to women health as I have a strong educational background in women health care. As a nurse practitioner, I will have a deep commitment to having the positive change in women’ lives. For the attainment of these goals, I will need to have innate intelligence and hardwork and to be consistent. The practical life experience and life skills have given me the needed skills to succeed in my career. I have assumed a leadership position in various undertakings and my love to solve problems gives me the dedication to work.
Strategies to Attain the Goals
To achieve these goals, I will have the strategies in place, I will participate in some options programs which will give me the experience that will enable me to attain my goals expediently and efficiently. To develop my career after the transition from RN to NP, I will continue gaining education from online training and seminars. I plan to include people like my career advisors, friends, and family in my career development. Sharing goals with colleagues will give a strong support which will in return help generate constructive synergy towards the goals. Other NP with prospects of career advance will provide the need resources towards the realization of the goals. Multiple certifications will also help me advance my career my advancing my employability. Finally, I will be rewarding myself for every achievement along the way to generate the momentum to reach the goals.
