Summary
In this quantitative research article, the researchers focused on how offending behavior can predict sexual recidivism among sex offenders of different age groups. The study entailed 682 male participants who were sex offenders. As such, the sex offenders were allocated into groups of four as each cluster showed a bivariate correlation between offending behavior and sexual recidivism. Researchers utilized a logistic regression model in analyzing the validity of the risk of sexual recidivism without taking into consideration the age of offenders using the Crime Behavior Risk Score (CBR-Score). Findings suggest that the overall CBR-Score indicated a predictive validity not only for the sample size but also for all the age groups. As such it was concluded that the characteristics of an actual crime scene offending behavior could predict sexual recidivism in all age groups.
Analysis of the Article
The article had limitations regarding the sample size. As such, the age group with youngsters had only 70 offenders, which is small for statistical significance. This research would have utilized a theoretical of older offenders since it is evident that sex offenders can re-offend after an extended period of time, per se, 15-20 years. Also, the research would have included the traits of sexual defiance since they are one of the most prominent predictors of sexual recidivism to increase predictive accuracy, in relation to the research’s hypothesis.
Application
This article can be valid in criminal law and criminology regarding identifying suspects in cases involving sexual recidivism. A suspect’s history indicating an offending behavior in the past can be predicted in cases that involved selection of core suspects, let us say, a rape case. Since offenders can re-offend after a long time, it can be helpful for law enforcement to assess criminals after correction,
