AMIA (the American Medical Informatics Association) was formed in 1988 after three organizations merged: the Symposium on Computer Applications in Medical Care (SCAMC); the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI); and the American Association for Medical Systems and Informatics (AAMSI).
During the 35 years of the association’s existence, members of AMIA and its respected college, ACMI, have facilitated meetings, policy, research programs and education. AMIA publishes various outreach reading materials for its members and for other members of the community to provide views and news on a wide array of subjects related to informatics. Through the bimonthly scholarly journal, JAMIA, AMIA publishes scientific research on informatics in biomedicine and other branches of health. AMIA’s digital publications are posted throughout the year providing information on health policy, global activities, international standards, government affairs, and informatics scholarship achievement by AMIA membership.
