Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) –“DO IT Method”
This project addresses the application of the scientific methods of Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) to improving intervention. Pick a job at your place of work or a job that relates to this material, and discuss how the “DO IT Method” can aid in improving the behavior of employee(s). I work in the mining industry. My Professor knows that I work in the mining industry as well.
The project is required to be a minimum of 500 words in length (or a minimum of twopages double-spaced). You should follow APA style and referencing guidelines and choose articles from journals available on the CSU Online Library database. You may also use any website as a resource.

Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) –“DO IT Method”
According to Geller (2005), behavior based safety is a reinforcement that enables an organization to change existing unsafe work place behaviors, often through the application of behavioral science to real life situations. It’s an action taken by the management of an organization in the identification of the causes for unsafe behavior and application of correct measures to reduce such unsafe behavior. Unlike other quick fix problem solving methods, BBS utilizes long term strategies that ensure lasting solutions to problematic behavioral challenges such as the DO IT method. Below is a detailed account of how this method has been utilized to influence behavior change in my organization.
I work in a mining company. The most part of this year, our company has witnessed declining output, as most production staff report to work late, often called-in sick, and supervisors complain that they were uncooperative. Utilizing the DO IT methodology, Interviews with the affected staff revealed that lack of motivation among production staff was responsible for the negative change of behavior. There are various strategies for motivating staff; they include recognition, leadership, fair remuneration, job enrichment, effective communication, incentives etc
A review of the above strategies, coupled with information gathered from the production staff will provide insight on the most efficient motivation strategy for the staff. Leadership, in this case seems to be the most obvious cause of the discontent amongst employees. In this department, there are various managers, who assign tasks to employees, and to whom employees report. The challenge with this situation is that employees report to multiple bosses, who often make conflicting requests and demands. Solving this problem requires a reorganization of the structure of the departments reporting structure. This can be done by having each manager responsible for given tasks and assigned a specific cluster of employees, under one senior manager to whom these managers can report depending on the tasks at hand. This will not only ensure clarity of authority, but will also reduce incidences of conflicting instructions which demotivates employees.
