Title: Access to patient care advocacy
Thesis: Advocating for access to patient care simply concerns helping people get appropriate or required health services that can improve their health. In short, it involves ensuring there is adequate supply of services and opportunities for access to good patient care. Access to quality patient care is therefore determined by the quality of infrastructure, services, and operational system. The main problem in healthcare systems is balancing between quality and costs of patient care, especially in developing countries. Patient care advocacy therefore aims advancing patient care through universal healthcare, healthcare policy reforms and ensuring quality services.
- Introduction
This section will give a description of the statement of the problem, justification, the goals and the research questions.
- Focus of the research
The healthcare system in many countries including developed ones such as the USA is in crisis. Research shows that many people especially in developing countries and the poor go without proper patient care (O’Donnell 2007). This shows that a lot has to be done to ensure adequate access to patient care despite a person’s status, race, age, origin or religion. This project will therefore aim at promoting ways through which every individual can have access to proper patient care.
- Goals of the project
The objectives of the project will be:
- To identify hindrances to adequate access to quality patient care
- To analyze ways through which adequate and proper access to patient care can be achieved
The following questions will be used to realize each of the above mentioned objectives.

- In what way can countries (both developed and underdeveloped) ensure access to quality patient care by every individual?

- Literature review
This section will give a detailed description of previous studies under healthcare.
- Background of patient care
A brief overview of the current situation of patient care will be discussed. This includes the current stand of World Health Organization (WHO) and many countries (both developed and underdeveloped). It will also entail what health organizations in countries such as USA are doing to ensure every individual has access to quality patient care.
- Healthcare crisis
This entails a discussion of the crisis experienced in healthcare. Research shows that healthcare is a crisis in most countries including developed ones like USA. In fact access to effective healthcare in developing countries is still a major issue Though many countries have tried to adopt ways various ways such as universal healthcare and insurance, they are still underutilized (O’Donnell 2007).
- Access to patient care
This entails a detailed description of what access to patient care entails. Access to healthcare is divided into two, opportunities to access healthcare and quality of the services offered. There can be access to healthcare but the services are poor or healthcare services are good but only a few people can access the services. For instance, a good number of European countries have tried to ensure proper access to healthcare by adopting universal healthcare but many still do not feel they have access to it. This is not only attributed to low income but to poor healthcare services and long waits (Cylus & Papanicolas 2015).

The analysis section is set to give the findings of the project with respect to each of the objectives.
- Hindrances to access to quality patient care
The identified hindrances such as high costs and lack of political power are discussed. In developed countries like USA, the healthcare system is inequitably distributed and more of business oriented thus making it costly (Mukau 2009). The focus is on treating diseases rather than ensuring wellness. In underdeveloped countries, lack of proper power or authority to implement quality healthcare systems is one of the main hindrances. High costs are also an issue because research shows that some countries have good healthcare systems but they are underutilized due to poverty (Cylus & Papanicolas 2015).
- Ways through which quality patient care can be made accessible
A detailed discussion of the different ways that can be adopted to ensure access to quality patient care is given. Some of the ways include reduction in costs, adopting universal healthcare and insurance coverage, health reform and ensuring quality services among others (Mukau 2009).
- Conclusion
This section entails a summary of how and the extent to which each of the objectives was achieved.
