In analyzing the specific components contained in a movie, it is imperative to appreciate physical, social, and cultural determinants that influence the lead characters in various films. As such, this essay transcends a description of the physical, social, and cultural influences on lead characters on blockbusting movies; City of God, Güeros, and Wadja. To begin with it is evident that the movies are based on the cities of cinema namely; Rio De Janeiro, Brazil; Mexico City, Mexico; and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which are correspondingly associated with three dynamical circumstances faced by the lead characters within the above-mentioned movies. Furthermore, the essay will analyses a comparison and contrast that the movies reveal on a cultural perspective.
First, the Brazilian movie, City of God, being nominated for Oscar’s Award depicts an exclusive aesthetic criminal life of a slum in Rio tagged as “City of God.” Alternatively, Güeros, based in Mexico City depicts the turbulence periods in Mexico when students were influenced by outside forces. Wadja, based in Saudi Capital, reveals the status of a woman in the country, Saudi Arabia. In Wadja, a girl child, within a gender segregated society, wants ride a bike of her own. Comparatively, all these movies reveal and discuss about the misery that humanity faces in the modern world (Bruzzi, 1997).
Both movies are similar in way they reveal how the circumstances of an individual are altered by the powerful forces of socio-cultural beliefs within their respective society. As such, in the film, City of God, Benny tries to distance himself from the criminal sect led by L’il Ze. Benny struggles with actively to escape from the gang as he faces difficulties. As such, the struggles depict Benny’s emotions and the unforgiving reality that follows his pursuit for escape. Equally, Güeros, depicts how the university students meet the harsh reality of the society as the military murders a number of students to deter their rightful protests. Likewise, in Wadja, a girl is faced with the unforgiving nature of the Saudi Arabian society the discriminates and contemplate the superiority of men in its society.
Arguably, both movies reveal the true nature and aspects coupled with the cultural beliefs of the society in context that as conventionally unheeded by many. All these movies, even though are set in different locations in the world, they are focused on revealing a focal idea of the true nature of evil that is breed in the modern world (Bruzzi, 1997). As such, both movies reveal that the world is infested with evil that most people overlook when these evil is practiced. This further reveals the true nature that the humankind system of life.
Additionally, if the distinctions are to be considered among the three motion pictures, there exist a few of them. The principal contrast is that every one of the three are shot at three unique areas spread far and wide and demonstrates the way of life of three distinct locations. There are immeasurable contrasts between the cultural and social parts of Brazil, Mexico and Saudi Arabia, and the circumstances appeared in the three motion pictures (Carroll, 1985). stories, areas, and societies and show different qualities toward them. A few human
feelings are revealed in the films, and they can all make you cry and giggle
