Contract versus Proprietary Security
Introduction
Both proprietary and contract security constitute of a private security. They involve investigations, alarm, armored transportation, guard, and lie detection. In addition, they involve information, physical and employment related forms of security that have a representation of the responsibilities and roles that involve the private sector security. They not only provide information that concerns threats, but also include information on accidents, waste, error and practices that are unlawful or unethical.
Appropriate Security for a Shopping Mall
The appropriate security that is to be used by a Shopping Mall is a contract security type instead of the proprietary security type. The contract form of security give protection to employees, the shopping mall assets and the shopping customers by the use of perimeter protection, video surveillance, and by responding to assistance request and alarm responses in good time compared to the proprietary security services that rely mostly to the conversancy of an environment; since, they are trained and goal focused to one station of work.
Reasons for Using a Contract Security Service and Cost Benefit Analysis
The proprietary form of security type for a Shopping Mall will find it ineffective to manage and control a shopping mall since many of the security matters of a shopping mall are directly addressed at a shopping mall security departmental levels instead of going outside the shopping mall to security experts to solve the affecting issues, hence they lack expertise security decisions from a reliable audit source (Kmietowicz, 2013). With the contract security type, which outsources its services, will give attention to every matter to the shopping mall over security threat with quick response on the matter and it will be addressed effectively without bias since the service providers are located outside the shopping mall, they depend on surveillance cameras and response alarms that record every security threat without manipulation that will distort information and evidence.
The security contract is ever present and employees trusted more compared to the proprietary services that lack a platform of directly addressing their issues. The security department of the proprietary is just within the shopping mall premises, but lacks attention to security officers and ever busy with addressing issues of other department instead of relying on one department. Meanwhile, Contract security employs have a lot of time to address their issues since they have to follow appointment procedures only for them to be well attended at from their main offices. The proprietary security have inefficient and ineffective integrated knowledge and experience of a shopping mall and lack exposure to the outside world with much security issues compared to the contract security type that has been in the security related matters over a long period of time and have much knowledge of the shopping mall objectives and goals that are put in place to every employee of the shopping mall as compared.
A contract type of security model is built based on assumptions of comprehensive type of understanding and training that will be offered with a ground of career that shows commitment to the security and security personnel organization as compared to the proprietary type of security services that are not ready to be involved into fraud investigations and internal auditing on critical areas that may not be directly related to the security matters of the shopping malls but are of risk to the safety of the shopping mall. The shopping mall will be cost saving by having contract security personnel compared to the proprietary security type that has to incur a lot of money since they lack experts on security matters and investigations (Kerenza, 2011).
The shopping mall will have a realistic format on the cost saving by the outsourced services of security. The contractual security service are vast and have much of the knowledge and experience on security matters on which it will bring to the shopping mall with commitments of regulatory standards and the current type of security industry. The security department of the shopping mall is a busy organization and making follow ups on regulatory requirements that are related to the security information, banking or the financial services will be costly, and to be made less effective, it will require the effort of the contract security company that is more informative on security issues as compared to the proprietor form of business that must follow the regulatory compliance procedures on its own and incurring much of the shopping mall expenses.
The contract outsourcing services usually distribute potential liability and risk. The shopping mall liability for actions done by the security workers or assertions of inappropriateness are shared with the security contactors (Kmietowicz, 2015). It helps the shopping mall risk managers to be considerate with fraud investigation and internal auditing, critical program areas and information security as compared with proprietary services that have all types of risk on themselves hence reducing cost for the shopping mall.
Assumptions
It will be of importance for the contract security to be using secondary sources of data for the reliability analysis of the common survey items that cannot be achieved by proprietary security services. If the contract security and the period of collection of the secondary information for a shopping mall are the same, then security estimates will be by sampling of variations of secondary data in the shopping malls. Contract security service are to cover a vast range of topics on some studies to make inclusion of budgeting, safety and demographics, by taking concern on these topics, a comprehensive reliability and understanding of contract security officers and the shopping mall environments will be achieved (Gordon, Loeb, Lucyshyn, & Zhou, 2015).
Contract security officers as compared to proprietary are capable of overcoming response and methodological rate challenges that they face by careful considerations of needs to be availed at the development frames of the national sampling. The frames should provide sufficient coverage on shopping malls from which they will draw inference. Contract security personnel are to come up with conduction of periodic survey on security matters since the trend data that is obtained in the growing security industry is changing rapidly. The newly acquired representative data can reduce problems of attrition though it will be found difficult for determining whether the changes found in the estimates are caused by the sampling or time error. It will help in discovering how contract security is utilized over proprietary security by the shopping mall and the outcome policy and economic implications.
Drawbacks
The contract security is of much reliability to a shopping mall but based on the vast space coverage and business that operate in the shopping mall, they will cost the shopping mall a lot of contractual agreed expenses yearly. Working with the same type of staff and employees usually lead to robbery and corruption deals within an area to destroy, steal or damage on payment that is offered from outside dealers who are usually after something in the shopping mall. Security personnel need shifting to other forms of businesses regularly like in contract securities.
Conclusion
Private security companies have a major role in the security matters of a country that range from investigative services, guarding, alarm monitoring, security consultations and armored form of transport. The growth of the industry in private security has driven the outsourcing services of security duties in areas that include privatization of correction, a commercial security and some infrastructure protection. Moreover, the relationship of the private security companies and the public institutions has greatly improved in the recent period and this has led to the collaboration of information sharing and doing partnership in some operations. The annual amount collected revenue for the private sector has increased with recent estimations of 35 billion US Dollar from 13 billion US Dollars. Leaders in the private security have proved that they can offer the nation with qualified and a well-trained range of security officers.
Comparing contract and proprietary form of private security, the contract security appears to be more advantageous than the proprietary based on the vast experience, knowledge, effectiveness and efficiency they offer. The contract security is less costly and time saving for organizations that are with tight schedules modes of operation that require a twenty four-hour security service.
