Emotional Intelligence And Social Awareness
Social awareness is an attribute of emotional intelligence that entails an understanding of emotions, concerns, and needs of other individuals, social well-being, and power dynamics in societies. The concept of social awareness is highly adopted in the modern business environment as it helps to establish effective relationships with both clients and workers thereby contributing to the success of the business. Besides, organisational leaders who demonstrate robust emotional competencies tend to have high success records, and higher customer and employee satisfaction (Lighthouse Leadership, 2016). The paper, therefore, sheds light on how social intelligence is reflected in social awareness.
Naturally, people tend to be anxious and self-oriented to execute their perspectives upon others, where they expect others to act and think like them. However, such attitudes are not conducive when developing social connections. Emotional intelligence, therefore, helps in seeking means of attaining objectives while taking into account the varied, attitudes, emotions, and capabilities of other people required to accomplish the objective (Darwin, 2015).
In a business set up, social awareness enhances effective communication as it helps to develop active listening. As a result, active listening enables one to suspend any preconceptions of other people’s opinions and thus allows one to empathise with what others feel regarding their requests for social needs. Social awareness is, therefore, essential for businesses to adopt as it puts them in a better position to understand the needs of customers as well as employee needs and thus helps a business to succeed.
Because social awareness acknowledges the different emotional boundaries encountered while interacting with others, effective communication is thus enhanced. The communication is fostered since one can recognise the emotions of others without necessarily embracing their sentiments. Furthermore, the application of social awareness in recognising emotional boundaries enables one to carefully choose the responses to provide to others while engaging in communication. The situation, in turn, helps to ensure that time is not wasted in attempts to change the feelings of others.
Summarily, social awareness promotes
effective communication as it enables one to analyse
circumstances and people and provide adequate feedback. In a business
set up, empathising with the emotions of customers
and employees helps an organisation to
establish proper communication with customers
and employees. The situation further enables the organisation
to understand the needs of customers and those
of employees better. Additionally, recognition of emotional boundaries
helps to provide appropriate responses which result
in improved communication.
