Introduction
With the recent growth and advancement in the drastically changing field of computing and informatics, the concept of advertising and marketing has also changed and advanced tremendously. Before the computer revolution, the most common means of an advertisement was print media and mainstream media that included television and radio advertising (Sichel 2010, 29). With this advancement in computing, there has emerged more effective and efficient means of marketing and advertisements ranging from pop-up advertisements to more sophisticated ways like websites and web-based applications. With the internet, technology, marketing, and advertising have been made easier in the recent past since organisations have adopted the concept of web modelling to come up with websites and web based applications as a means of presenting, marketing and selling their products to interested clients (Zeff and Aronson 2009, 26).
The internet is accessible from all over the world. For this reason, web contents happen to get views from all over the world; making web advertising it one the most efficient way of conducting any form of business (Albert and Barabasi 2009, 15).
Excel model management adopt the use of web model technology by utilising web models and web-based applications where models and other people with talents will put up a profile to showcase portfolios and clients will also use this same platform to identify, book and pay models who meet their qualifications.
- How has the current system failed in ensuring that that all the processes in booking, engaging and paying the models are effective and efficient?
- How can the current system be improved to provide integrated payment solutions that guarantee models’ payment?
- How can the commission rates charged to both parties be regulated?
- How will the proposed system resolve the current complcations experienced in booking procedures models?
- How will the proposed system provide an effective rating and filtering criteria?
- To give models exposure to a wider range of clients
- To ensure fair and timely payment of models
- To give the client the privilege of choosing models on their own basing their choice on their specifications and models’ qualification
- To ensure that terms of booking and usage are clear and respected by both parties
- To provide a platform with searching and filtering criteria to ensure clients are satisfied and models motivated to grow their portfolios
- Provide a platform where clients can find and book people with all sorts of talents
- Ensure upcoming models, and other talents can learn from viewing profiles of other established models
- The models and clients are computer literate.
- The stakeholders who will be engaged during the research will be cooperative.
A web technology comprises of a systematic structure composed of distinct, abstract structural components of a website or any other web based application. Through this technology, well-structured, easy to use and maintainable web applications are developed (Tongrungrojana and Lowe 2006, 12). The scientist who develops these web applications have to make them appealing to the eye, usable and put into consideration all human computer interaction principles (Nielsen, 2010, 1)
The web, being the core concept of web technology, is considered a universal space containing information. The information contained in this space consists of organisation’s detailed information, description of what they offer regarding products and services, user profile information and login credentials for signed in users. All this information is stored in a well-organised, web controlled database servers (Neilson 2009, 23).
A website is one common terminology in internet technology. A website is a collection of a sequentially and appropriately organise web pages inclusive of multimedia, identified with a similar domain name and stored in a web server. A website is accessed by using a unique address called a Uniform Resource Locator that is keyed in on a web browser.
These websites are developed using a visual notation and a clearly stipulated methodology called Web Modelling Language which provides them with graphical, formal and precise specifications, which are all included in a distinct process with the aid of visual designing tools. There exists an extension of web modelling language called Interaction Flow Modelling Language, which covers a wider scope of interfaces. This method is composed of five core features namely structure, navigation, derivation, composition and presentation, which are developed iteratively (Tongrungrojana and Lowe 2006, 7).
The most basic web’s building block is Hypertext Markup Language, which defines and describes the content of every web page on a website. It handles web’s presentation and functionality. The links that control connection between one web page to another whether in one website or different websites is referred to as hypertext (Graham 2005, 1).
Web modelling follows a series of steps in development commonly referred to as website development life cycle. The first step in this process is gathering critical information to be contained on the website; this is followed the planning process where sitemaps and wireframe creations are determined. The next step is page design where the appearance of the page is created and, after that, the site’s content is written and assembled for coding, testing, and maintenance (Hamood, 2009, 32).
After the whole process of web designing and creation is over and all deliverables achieved, a process of web hosting is carried out to make it possible to view the web pages on the internet. A web hosting service provider provides these services. In essence, these pages are stored on a server and are displayed once a user requests them by typing a specific address on a web browser and search engines (Canali and Francillon 2013, 1).
Web technology provides an advertising platform commonly referred to as online advertising is today’s most effective means of marketing considering that estimated two billion users from all over the world access the internet on a daily basis. Some web pages are only used partially for marketing and advertising while others are hosted with their only aim being marketing and advertising (Zeff and Aronson 2009, 16). Some only provide for viewing of product and services and using other means to get in touch. Others have gone ahead to introduce the concept of user profiles and portal where a user with different interest put up their profiles to showcase their products and services and in return the company that host the page earns interest from any transaction these users conduct. In this case, however, we are going to dwell much on web models that support user profiles
Creating a website with the capability of allowing users to create their user profile is an effective way of making users stay engaged on the site. These users are supposed to register, get login credential and from there on it upon them to control the content of their profiles as long as it does not go against any set policies (Gómez 2010, 12). In these websites, there exists a web portal that has a data entry field where the user should key in his credentials which are then cross-checked with credentials in the database for validation of user. If the details are correct access is granted and if the credentials are wrong access is denied.
Just like any other developmental process, diagrammatical modelling is key to web development. Once these are modelled and drawn, the developer can make sure that he does not leave any step out during the development process as undoing the process would mean spending more time and resources (Schwabe and Rossi 2008, 13).
To answer the research questions, I will utilise the use of questionnaires and interviews. Incorporating these two in my research will ensure that more grounds are covered and more diverse and precise information is obtained. For this reason, this research will yield a better result than when only one of the forementioned methods is used.
The sampling frame will consist anyone in the modelling and fashion industry at large who has had any dealings with an independent model or a modelling agency in the recent past since only they can relate to the challenges facing the industry at the moment. Geographically the research would cover a few cities to ensure diversity of opinion. Involvement of both genders in this process would also go a long way in achieving diversity of opinions. To reach these models, I will contact them through their respective agencies but since access to the models through their respective modelling agencies cannot be guaranteed I may be forced to contact them at a personal level or through their other contacts in the fashion industry.
. Holding the accessibility to the models and other factors constant, this research could take a period one to two months.
Foreseen Limitations
- Access to sample subjects is not guaranteed.
- Unguaranteed cooperation from stakeholders.
- Stakeholders’ resistance to change.
The
problem of model and other creatively talented individuals demotivation can be terminated. However, it will take a lot of
resources and a combined effort from all different stakeholders. This would mean providing all these models with
a platform where they would compete for jobs with each other and earn ratings
purely by merit. This would also ensure
that they are paid fairly based on the job and their rating. Clients in need of
these models services will also benefit from this arrangement since they can
pick the model with their desired qualification directly without having to go
through agencies, which at times charge exorbitant commission rates.
