Essay 1
Under the Pearson interactive tutorial, the introduction to Business communication highlights the areas in effective communication, barriers to effective communication, communicating in a more effective way in the job, application of technology in business so as to improve communication, ethics under communication, and etiquette in business (Pearsoncustom.com, 2017).
Under effective communication, communication is defined as the process through which one sends and receives messages. An effective way of communication occurs when individuals have the ability to correctly understand the message and a clear response to the message is achieved. Among the characteristics of effective communication include: practicability, realistic, concise, clear expectations, and persuasiveness. In order to achieve effective communication, a number of steps have to be considered between the sender and the receiver (Pearsoncustom.com 2017). Therefore, effective business communication has a number of impacts on a business such as diversity of workforce and business globalization, improving the value of communication in a business, and prevalence of technology among others.
On the other hand, effective business communication has a number of barriers that include: distractions, overload of information, barrier in language, and misleading tactics (Pearsoncustom.com 2017). Minimizing distractions and implementing strategies to improve communication skills solve such challenges.
Besides this, technology has played a great role in changing business from the old way to a current way that applies the internet, cellular phones and wireless technology. In the current times, millions of people are able to communicate through the internet in and the knowledge of computers has become a necessity.
Ethics in business communication has currently become an issue of concern in business. Several factors have to be considered including analyzing the situation in a fair and correct manner, the intention of sending the message, the effect of the message to the people receiving the massage as well as others, and the outcome of the message to the people. In a nutshell, an ethical message should be sincere and accurate.
Etiquette in business is about the presentation of an individual in a manner that one can be taken seriously. It also plays a role in being contented within people. They include the anticipated standards of behavior in a specific condition.
Essay 2
The process of sending and receiving a message over people with different cultures is called intercultural communication (Pearson Learning Solutions. 2017). In intercultural communication, language plays a key role. Culture can generally be seen as the overview of values, beliefs, attitudes, standards and guidelines of behavior that is shared between groups of people. The difference existing between cultures brings a challenge in communication.
Cultural diversity includes the differences that exist between religious, ethnic, and national settings along with different age groups and gender (Pearson Learning Solutions. 2017). It affects how messages in businesses are perceived, scheduled, send or received and understood in the place of work.
In efforts to overcome cultural differences, it is important to understand the six key types of differences among cultures that include; differences under context, ethics and law, society, age and gender as well as nonverbal differences (Pearson Learning Solutions. 2017).
Besides intercultural communication, it is also important to consider writing skills between different cultures. The use of clear and simple language that has a single meaning and being brief in delivering information including avoiding humor and other common cultural references is important among other considerations.
Business across cultures has been achieved using technology by application of translators (Pearson Learning Solutions. 2017). Under multiple languages, translators are of great value in the current global market. Despite the inability of technology to detect subtleties of language, it has offered a chance for interpreting words, messages and phrases.
The paper has analyzed the issues related to communication between different cultures as well as the role of technology in overcoming the challenges.
