Plagiarism is defined by Pennycook (1996) as copying someone else’s work and passing them off as your own work without acknowledging the source. This according to Pennycook (1996) is theft since the original source has not been credited and is evidence of poor scholarship and academic dishonesty. it can occur through copy and paste, paraphrasing material without citing the source and omitting quotation marks (Niklander, No Date).
