Protection Officers Training Proposal SEC/420
Protection Officers Training Proposal
Introduction
Protection officers are security officers hired to ensure the security of high ranking personnel such as government officials, royalties and wealthy people. They also secure personal homes, companies and means of transport (ASDC international, 2000). In this document, we will dwell on VIP residence protection and security in cross country flight. In VIP residence, protection officers are set up according to the needs and risk level of clients. For instance, a home that has strong security features and CCTV cameras may require a single protection officer but large estates without strong security features require several protection officers to monitor the estate and CCTV coverage. These protection officers are not only armed with high end weapons but are also equipped with security skills to help tackle any security threats. The remaining portion of the document therefore outlines training on protection of VIP’s residence and security during cross country flight.
Protection of VIP’s residence
To become a VIP residence protection officer, some skills are required to identify potential risks and effectively react to them. Training in this area should involve lectures, field exercises and hands-on testing of acquired skills. Each stage of this training should be extensively covered to allow trainees to adequately acquire relevant skills for their work environment. In the training, an officer is taught on how to maintain and protect the property of a client. The classes offered will include analysis of security device content such as CCTV footage, patrolling, liaising with law enforcing agencies, creating visitor logs, creating inventory of items to identify the valuable ones, defensive and tactical shooting, and unarmed combat among others (International Foundation for Protection Officers [IFPO], 2010).
These classes will be divided into four modules – Risk management, combat techniques, Officer Relations and practical skill testing. All the modules except practical skill testing should take a maximum of one week.
- Risk Management:
This module entails training on:
- Risk categories
- Minor threats
- Major threats
- Handling Risks
- Risk identification and analysis
- Property inspection
- Inventory creation
- CCTV footage analysis
- Patrolling
- Keeping visitor logs
- Combat techniques:
This module entails training on:
- Tactical positioning
- Weapon use
- Defensive shooting
- Tactical shooting
- Self-protection techniques
- Unarmed combat
- Defense weapons
- Defense against multiple attacks
- Locating threats
- First aid skills
- Physical exercises
- Officer relations:
This module entails training on:
- Liaising with law enforcing agencies
- Work ethics and code of conduct
- Officer – officer relations
- Employer – officer relations
- Interpersonal support
- Practical skill testing:
This module entails practical session carried out in work environments. The officers will be tested on their skills in:
- Risk management
- Relations
- Combat techniques
This module is very important because it will ensure that the officers gain some experience that will enable them secure employment.
Security during a cross-country flight
Security threats in flights are increasing day by day. These threats are propagated by passengers themselves, terrorists, miscommunication and sometimes mechanical problems. This training targets both pilots and flight protection officers because cross-country flights can be under taken by one or more people on board. One person on board means the aircraft will have the pilot only. The level of security on such flights largely depends on the level of security training offered. This will be a tactical training that aims at equipping the trainees with tactical skills in security. However, such a training should be conducted periodically due to frequent changes in security threats (International Foundation for Protection Officers [IFPO], 2010).
Unlike the VIP residence protection training, this training will be covered in three weeks. The training will be divided into two stages – stage 1 and stage 2.
Stage 1:
This stage will include comprehensive lectures on security.
- Risk analysis
- Threat containment
- Implementation of Security procedures
- Procedures for physical aircraft check
- Procedures for combating unlawful acts:
- Unruly passengers
- Bomb threats
- Sabotage
- Treatment of VIPs
- Security tests
- Reporting threats
- Communication
Stage 2:
This stage will include combat skills and tactical drilling.
The trainees will engage in practicing tactile skills on:
- Defense mechanisms
- Handling fights
- Unarmed warfare
Conclusion
At
the end of VIP residence training, the trainees should be well equipped with
skills in various areas. After protection of VIP residence training, the
trainees should be able to protect properties and clients in private homes, estates
and companies. After security during cross-country flight, they should be able
to ensure security in cross-country flights. Proper training will ensure that the
trainees are dedicated to their work, are not intimidated and are faithful. Just
as any other security job, ensuring security in VIP residence can be quite
stressful. These officers are expected to be always prepared, alert and in
constant communication with each other. For this reason, they are expected to
undergo periodical stress tests and counselling.
