Succession Planning
Course Book: The Talent Management Handbook (Third Edition) Chapters 13-15
Succession planning is the foundation for the Talent Management process. It assesses the needs within the organization, the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the organizational talent, and identifies the gap between the two. Succession planning allows upper management to identify the right position for their team members based on their skill set. It creates the roadmap for talent development and the recruiting needs of the organization.
For this assignment, I want you to research and develop a succession plan for your organization. You will need to evaluate the various tools available for succession planning, either choose one of those tools or build your own based on your research. The tool you choose or create should be the best fit for your organization. You must explain why this is the best tool to use. Once the tool is selected, you must outline the succession plan itself.
Instructions:
Your plan should include a tool that you will use to evaluate the employee skill sets.
Your plan should include the process you will use to gather information about the needed skills for current and upcoming positions, the current employee skill sets, and the potential the employees show for future positions.
Your plan should include how the succession plan will be successfully implemented in the organization including timelines and action steps.
