In the design pieces, Rad Rouhani have taken the concept of unisex fashion and transformed it into one of the most popular fashion clothing for both female and males. The perfection done on the pieces flawlessly fits every gender and encourages genderless clothing. The mixture of grey and white to the usual black and leather of the design piece is quite inspirational and excellent, especially when the three blend (Manjal, 2016).
Rationale
The transformation of gender-based fashion to unisex fashion has become a groundbreaking fashion trend for the 21st century. Unisex fashion in the 21st century has not only changed the fashion world but has affected the social norm of the human interaction (Chen, 2011). However, unisex fashion still existed before the 21st century, but its existence was primarily based upon uniformity with a masculine tilt. It did not sought to cross gender lines. Unisex fashion has paved itself as a movement that is here to stay (J Diamond, 2013). Unisex clothing continues to gain a huge marketshare, despite the reluctance of some big retail brands to shift into genderless industry (J Diamond, 2013). The description on of the existence of unisex fashion in the 21st century can be further illustrated by saying that blue men from Mars and pink women from Venus can now live together on planet earth (Chen, 2011).
The world fashion trend has been infiltrated by a more androgynous aesthetic over the last decade. Male models are now sent into the catwalk stage during fashion shows dressed in skirts attracting major attention from many fashion designers (J Diamond, 2013). Due to this, fashion designers have now embraced the art of unisex fashion by creating genderless fashion items. The popularity of unisex fashion in the 21st century fashion have paved way for a fresh approach to fashion and style building upon the foundation of expression over gender.
However, despite these dramatic changes in the 21st century fashion, there are some individuals reluctant to move from the traditional view on male and female style of fashion (J Diamond, 2013). On the other hand, the emergence of unisex fashion themes have been well adopted by many fashion lovers as many people are fed up with the traditional fashion style which discriminate gender based on color that dictates their wardrobe (Chen, 2011). The traditional concept of colors are synonymous with a specific gender have been shun by many women who feel that their options are limited.
Women can now ignore the bright colors that were traditionally associated with them, for quest for darker colorways (J Diamond, 2013). Women are now creating the mentality of choosing fashion items that are less princess like and moving towards fashion items that are associated with power. There is no doubt that in the 21st century unisex fashion is in high demand. Consumers are becoming more involved in making it their goal to urge fashion designers that have failed to embrace unisex fashion lines to become more inclusive to the wants of both their females and male consumers. However, the support from both the male and female consumers around the globe has been amazing during the beginning of the 21st century (J Diamond, 2013).
It is quite clear that as the beginning of 21st century the definition of gender is becoming more and more vague as unisex fashion define genderless clothing (J Diamond, 2013). The genderless clothing brought about by unisex fashion, reflects the cultural uncertainty that surrounds the male and female role. In addition, many fashion experts argue that the 21st century fashion emphasizes on youth and sexuality (J Diamond, 2013). The existence of unisex clothing and the wide use of men’s clothing by women illustrate this evidence. It is nearly impossible to measure the market for unisex clothes, but there is no doubt that such a market exists. In the unisex fashion line, women are more willing to make that step of moving towards a gender-neutral role in terms of fashion. Therefore, women make up the highest number for unisex fashion customers. Research studies indicate that women are more inclined to head over to the men’s section, as men are reluctant to deviate. However, in the 21st century, men are starting to pay more attention to how they dress (Chen, 2011).
According to the images in this paper, Hourani’s unisex collection is that to be the most popular genderless brands of the 21st century since his launch in 2007 (Lam, 2014). Many consider his work more provocative bringing attention to the idea of unisex fashion. Despite these changes, unisex fashion is still a major challenge for most male consumers. The challenge to unisex fashion is the cultural gender norms that most of the society is still firmly ingrained. This means that most men want to be masculine and most women want to be feminine, hence creating a barrier (Lam, 2014). This makes it hard to get away from human anatomy, which makes up the majority of people in the society. However, despite all these challenges their still some set of people who will challenge the cultural gender norms, but still their actions will not make any significant impact on human cultural norms (The Dvine, 2014).
