Unit II Assignment Help
Alice represents a great asset for the entire team, due to her evident capability and contribution to the company. She possesses extensive knowledge and skills. Furthermore, she displays a great quest for the optimal results by striving to do her best. Consequently, she is highly motivated. Since the member possesses both extensive range of skills and high motivation, her role can be classified under box 3.
Bill is a member that possesses a high level of motivation. This is supported by his willingness to provide his best input during any assigned task. However, he has poor skills, as evidenced by the results of his input, which are not always up to the set standards due to deficiency in certain required skills. As a result, he can be categorized under box 4.
Chris does not have much to contribute to the overall output of the team. His only area of strength is his social capability, as he is able to work alongside everyone else smoothly. However, he lacks the required drive to acquire new skills, while he possesses poor skillset as evidenced by other members questioning them. Therefore, Chris can be categorized under box 2.
Doug is a highly motivated individual as demonstrated by his quest for improving his performance alongside his eagerness for learning. This includes seeking out opportunities that help enhance his ability and value to the team such as participating in committees. This has resulted in overall improvement. However, his skillset is not up to his optimal performance. As a result, Doug can be categorized under box 4.
Erica has a high value skillset, which have never been doubted by any team member. However, she possesses low level of motivation, which has resulted in a drop in her performance. This is also supported by her apparent unwillingness to perform at a higher level. Consequently, Erica is categorized in box 2.
Lisa possesses a highly valued skillset, which have resulted in her position as a top performer in the company. She is also highly motivated, as demonstrated by her willingness to learn new tasks. Additionally, she is a quick learner. As a result, she can be categorized in box 3.
Question 2
Alice and Lisa are members in category 3, hence possess both high motivation and skills. Consequently, minimal input is required to enhance their performance and skills. As a result, they should be allocated roles that involve responsibility and power, in order to assist the leader with development of the team to its optimal capability.
Bill and Doug are team members in category 4, demonstrating high motivation and low skills. As a result, the roles assigned to them should enhance his skillset. The skillset of each should be assessed on an individual level in order for the application of the necessary training.
Erica has a high skillset and low motivation. As a result, the roles assigned to her should target improving her commitment and by allocating greater responsibility. Chris on the other hand lacks both motivation and skills. This presents a major challenge as building both skills and motivation for an individual is a tremendous task. Thus, the most beneficial option for the team’s benefit is dropping him form the team.
Question 3
As a leader of the team, my role will be a combination of both a facilitator and a coach. As a facilitator, the objective will be increasing commitment and motivation of Erica with respect to the team. As a coach, the leadership role will involve training Bill and Doug in order to enhance their skillset within the team. The combination of these two roles will result in overall increase in the team’s performance.
Question 4
Shared
leadership involves leadership roles assigned to more than one individual (Dyer
et al, 2013). This can be achieved through assigning leadership roles to Alice
and Lisa. This enhances the team’s effectiveness and performance through higher
consensus and satisfaction. Transparency is also enhanced, since the leader
must account to the other leaders, which enhances team cohesion through
trustworthiness.
