Why AANP over ANCC
The AANP examinations are developed by the same organization that is the AANP with the help of Professional Examination Services (PES). The questionnaire used in the examination is formulated by content experts, gerontologists and practicing NPs and it is based on the roles of the studies given at the Certification Program. The AANP examination has three basic specialties: family nursing, adult, and gerontology. The examination is computer based and has multiple choices. The basic aim of this exam is its clinical relevance. The main reason for choosing this examination is its availability regardless of age, national origin, color, race, and religion. Many people from different nations prefer this examination. Candidates with disabilities are also given special consideration when undertaking the examination making it be friendly for many people. AANP examination also differs from the ANCC in the structure of the questions. The AANP has sections of assessment, plan, diagnosis, and evaluation. The ANCC has sections of independent practice, advanced practice, and professional practice. The candidate who passes the AANP become accredited by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Examination Preparation
To prepare for the examination, I will need to identify the content of the exam and make a list covering the area am confident in and upon reviewing the material the memory will suffice. The second step will be the preparation of another list which has the weak areas. The idea of where to put focus will guide on how to plan my time (Bice, Prerost, & Sefcik, 2012). During the study, the following parameters will be considered, patient risk, how clinical problem develop, how chosen intervention works, and the probable clinical outcome, the clinical presentation of a condition and clinical significance of the condition in the healthcare (Fitzgerald, 2012)
Nurse Regulation
In the US, the Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) has raised concern over the increasing regulation imposed to the nurse practitioners. The organization suggests that the shortage professional in the healthcare due to the extension of the insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) can be mitigated if the Nurse Practitioner could be permitted to operate at their full capacity (Lugo & Hodnick, 2017). Currently, there are profound limitations imposed on the Nurse Practitioners which has led to reducing workforce and increased country’s need for care. If the Nurse Practitioner could operate at the full capacity of their education and knowledge they could contribute to the delivery of community-based, patient-centered health care. The regulation involves authority and power, the basic education standards, the licenses required and the scope of the practice. The grounds and rationale of disciplinary actions are also defined in the regulations.
In my state of California, the regulation stipulated are very strict. The legislation passed and pending are aimed at transforming the operation of the nurse practitioners. Many NP argues that they could be doing more than they are currently allowed. The efforts to have NP have a full practice of their knowledge is a concern. Currently, the regulations demand that NP should practice within the area of experience, medication prescription should be within the scope of experience and the name of the NP should feature on the prescription bottle. These regulation and limitations have reduced the NP to engage only in one element of their knowledge. Under section 1485 of Nurse Practice Act (NPA) (The State of California, 2011), nurses are regulated in their scope of operation. They should follow procedure unless doing immunization, mental assessment and disease prevention.
